A squad of four archers, two compound and two recurve from Gwynedd Bowmen, representing Ynys Mon, took part in the archery competitions during the Natwest International Island Games 2005 being held on Shetland in July. Shooting against competitors from the islands of Aaland, Bermuda, Faroe, Guernsey, Jersey, Isle of Wight, Isle of Man, Orkney, Shetlands and Rhodes commenced with a FITA* competition over Monday and Tuesday. This was followed on Wednesday and Thursday by an Olympic 720 round with head-to-head shootout to Gold, Silver and Bronze medals. In the compound division, respresented by Richard Mathers and myself, results for us were poor. Weather conditions on most days were very difficult with occasional rain and quirky gusty winds on the shooting line reducing the top compound archer's score to 1188, and ours to much less! In the Olympic round Rhys came through all the head-to-head rounds and beat Absalon Hansen from Faroe Islands 92 to 79 to take a second Gold medal. In the Bronze medal shoot off, Wayne was very unlucky in losing to Kevin Houghton of the Isle of Wight 79 to 81 to finish placed 4th. We were pleased to see Dave Page as Director of shooting and special thanks go to Jean Page for collecting Richerd's arrows during the shoots. Nigel Mathers Team Manager |

![]() We are proud to announce that Gwynedd Bowmen retained the senior recurve Deeside Western League trophy in 2004, having won it in 2003. The trophy for this category of the competition had been lost previously to 2003, so as winners, Gywnedd Bowmen donated a new trophy...............Denzil "The Celtic Dragon". The trophy was presented to the NWAS, who then formally presented it to Gwynedd Bowmen at the North Wales Indoor Championships in February 2004 for the 2003 success, as seen below.
![]() Denzil travelled along the A55 to attend the NWAS A.G.M., whereby he was presented back to Gwynedd Bowmen for the 2004 success and travelled back along the A55 to his home for another year. Congratulations to the senior compound archers too, because Gwynedd Bowmen also won the senior compound category of the Deeside Western League for 2004. |
