Chester Indoor Championships - Portsmouth Round
The Houstons K. and W. respresented the club at the Individual competition on the Saturday, and did OK - now't special apparently, but unfortunately the rest of us couldn't get a entry place travelling as a group, so focus was on the team day out...........
Day Two - Sun 6th February, 2005 - Team event
I must be mad, I volunteered to write this report.
The usual meeting place at a fairly unreasonable (but not too unreasonable) time. Decided that two cars would be enough as Karl was meeting us there. So Barry (the bread van) and Gareth's Car were used. Stuart and Rhys were in Barry and behaved like children in the back playing with the gadgets (although really there aren't that many but it kept them happy.)
Stopped for Go-Go juice and sustenance at the usual pit stop the on towards Chester.
Arrived in plenty of time and made our grand entrance - the first official outing when all but one team member was in a Gwynedd Bowmen blue jacket - comments were made.
Had a coffee and perused the Archery World shop.
Then the semi serious business began - the finding of the raffle ticket seller oops, I mean the shooting. Everyone put in reasonable score and there was only one or two minor problems - the main one being that Steve's bow got knocked off his (new) stand, destrung, broke the doinker, moved the rest and generally unnerved him - so score plummeted a little in his camp.
After shooting we went in search of food and ended up at a rather superb pub for a carvery - excellent. Then back to the sports hall for the raffle - I mean prize giving!
Rhys won the individual prize - and as a club we won three raffle prizes - not a bad day really although Mike Ellis (he of 2 or 3 raffle prizes usually) let us down by not winning anything in the raffle.
Must try harder next time!
All in all as usual an excellent shoot and a lot of food - I mean fun!
Val.
