Saturday 12th February 2005 - Portsmouth - Amlwch Leisure Centre
Racing across Anglesey for another club shoot, we arrived at 12.15pm to find a really good turn out. There were two new faces, Patrick and Andrea, visitors from Corus, who had come to get in some practice before next week's competition at Deeside. The Corus visitors both had impressive kit and there was lots of interest in Patrick's sight pin with its fibre optic illumination. (I might just have to rethink the idea of removing my site pin comme le colossus Houston!) As usual, we girlies were in short supply, but c'est la vie - at least I could only come third!
After an initial hold up (waiting for Dave), the shooting went smoothly despite the rather erratic whistle blowing, caused, I think, by Steve's preoccupation with a very impressive looking new bow stand. My partners at the boss were Dewi, Geoff and Nigel (always good for a few tips). Dewi was scoring, so I had the honour of pulling his arrows from the pulverised gold circle which he made his own.
At the end of the afternoon, clearing up was quick and efficient as usual, although there was some consternation when it was discovered that one of the ropes, used to secure the bosses on the trailer, had been stolen. When Val read out the results in the windy car park, there were personal bests for Gareth, Geoff and Dave, with visitor, Patrick, stepping into Karl's shoes as worthy winner of the Men's Recurve.
Thanks to all for another enjoyable shoot.
From Brenda Clare
I'd like to say again that it was very nice to welcome visitors from Corus to our club shoot, Andrea and Patrick Beckett, even if Patrick prevented me from using my long overdue improved P.B. to win a club shoot in the rare absence of Mr K Houston. Thanks to the Becketts for making the effort to venture along the coast in the yet again wild and windy weather conditions after two previous failed attempts to join us. We hope they had a safe journey home.
Congrats to a number of other club members who improved their P.B.'s today too - (sorry I don't know for sure exactly who - let me know and I'll name and frame you if you'd like your 5 mins of club fame) [ Ed ]
